What Kinds of Material Can Tile Come In?
How Long Can a Tile Roof Last For?
While an asphalt shingle roof may last for 15-20 years, and a wood roof could last for 30 years, and a slate roof could last for 50, a clay/concrete tile roof could last for 100+ years. Tile roofs are one of the most durable roofing materials available for building structures – from residential homes, to churches to complexes to commercial buildings.
These tile roofs add considerable curb appeal to your building or home, whether you’re looking for a Southwestern or Spanish design.
Tile Roofing Design Advantages
Why choose a tile roof for your new roof replacement?
From a design perspective, tile has a wide variety of colors that you can select from. There are numerous profiles, styles, and subsequently it can significantly increase your homes curb value.
Concrete and clay can be manufactured from light shades to multi-colored, allowing a quality roofing company to help you find a color that meshes with your existing homes character. Tiles can emulate wood, slate or barrel style. In general, tile is highly sought after for its aesthetic image!
Durability for Your Tile Roof
When it comes to roofing and durability, tile is an undisputed leader. It offers long term durability, it is fire resistant, withstands extreme winds (which is why you will see so much tile in Florida), hail resistant and seismic resistance.
- Durability – there are still tile roofs standing that are centuries old.
- Fire resistance – Class A
- Wind resistance – Tile is designed to meet 150 MPH wind speds
- Hail resistance – Tile has a tough shell that serves as a shield to resist damage from large hailstones.
Other Benefits of a Tile Roof
Tile roofs are sustainable, reflective, allow for energy cost savings, are eco-friendly, and allow for natural air flow. Tile roofs allow for easy installation, and easy tile roof repair and replacement.
Since tile fulfills Energy Star requirements, it is considered a green product. Moreover, since you do not have to replace a tile roof as often as an asphalt shingle or even metal roof, materials do not deplete our limited natural resources. Waste can be recycled and tile does not fill our landfills. Tile can reduce heat loss which in turn can help save you money on your energy bill (with natural air ventilation it creates a heat transfer barrier).
Tile installation and tile roof maintenance is lower than other roofing materials as it is one of the simplest systems to install when a roofing contractor is properly trained with this material. Tiles are individually installed, so it is the easiest to repair.
Long Term – Tile is designed to last for you for the long haul.
Variety – Modern concrete and clay roof tile can suit styles from Mediterranean to historic to Colonial to Spanish architecture styles. You have many possibilities with roof tiles.
